Dear Miss Emily:
So you say some pretty hurtful things to your fiance and you know he is hurt but, as he is cooling off, a friend who you never get to see invites you out but you know your fiance is hurt. Do you go out with your friend for a couple hours, or console your fiance?
------------------------------Miss Emily's advice---------------------
I know there are many people who would fly out the door and table a discussion for a later date, no matter how emotionally injured the partner, but a couple who plans to have a quality marriage where a priority is to put each other first, and to resolve problems in a timely manner, should stay put. If, however, your fiance would have been more than happy to have some time alone to think out what happened (for example: whether he wants to end the engagement!), that is when it would have been okay to visit with a friend.
