Dear Miss Emily:

My husband and I have financial trouble because he stole from his employer.  I've asked him to get life insurance on himself, just in case anything would happen; enough for funeral costs and to pay off our house (not that much).  He told me he isn't leaving shit to anyone if anything happens to him!!  I think that is a slap in the face?

----------------------------Miss Emily's advice--------------------

Yes, it is a slap in the face, and that's an understatement. It's rather hypocritical to say such a thing, because this is the guy who was enriched by stealing from his employer (until he got caught), yet he doesn't want anyone enriched from his death -- even though it would take care of you (and your kids if you have them), and keep a roof over your head. He had no problem risking you suffering by being in financial peril, based on his sense of entitlement when he was dipping into the boss's till. Are you sure you want to stay with this man? He seems like a guy who has no genuine remorse for what he did, is self-centered beyond belief, and doesn't give a rat's ass about anyone but himself. Sorry to be so blunt, but he's a real piece of work. Here's a thought . . . maybe if he had life insurance, he'd be afraid you'd bump him off. Ha!
