Dear Miss Emily:
I am from the middle east and I immigrated to Canada a long time ago. I finished my school and got my degree and now I am working in a good job. Someone sent me a message through an online dating introducing himself and asking to know more about me and. then. started to call me everyday and send me messages everyday and say all the romantic things that any girl would love to hear. But his class is lower than me, and he doesn't make much money and doesn't know English well. He only got a diploma, not a bachelor degree. Now I know that this might create problems between us if we get married, as he will think that I am much better than him in education/work and I might also think of him less. I have noticed his friends are also from a lower class as I can see from their words in facebook. As much as he is gentle with me, I see that his friends are not very good and he lacks education. He is financially not good, and his English is not good. Do you think this long term relationship can succeed? He is hurrying everything up. He wants to get engaged and married by June!!
---------------------------------Ask Miss Emily's-------------------------
No, I do not think it will succeed, and you know it. You gave me all the reasons why it won't. The fact that he wants to hurry things is also a danger sign. He may be looking for a meal ticket, and sees you as the likely candidate. End this relationship, and try dating someone in your area. Internet dating sites often get flooded with losers, and scam artists. I'm not saying he's a fraud, but he may see you as a stepping stone to bring himself up in the world. Find an equal, or you'll never be happy; only end up resentful and bitter because you didn't heed that inner voice that told you, "This isn't right."
