Dear Emily,

I met this guy via twitter. and we've been talking for about two months now through text, phone and skype. We have grown to really love each other and would love to start a relationship -- but the thing is, is that we live in two completely different states. I know what I want. I want a relationship that is not long distance, but on the other hand I still love the guy and see myself with him. Should I end things considering the circumstances or just stay with this non fulfilling relationship? I'm 18.

----------------------------Miss Emily's advice------------------------

This is the way I look at it, with almost 7 billion people in the world, it's more than likely you can find a guy who fills your wants and desires closer to home. We can fall in love with many people -- but to maintain that love, it's best to have the circumstances be optimum in order for it to flourish. I am sorry, but I think you are right about questioning the chances of this relationship working. I always say to my advice seekers, it's difficult in the best circumstances to maintain a long-distance relationship, and you said you don't even want one. It takes money, and free time to visit in order to have the necessary face-time. It's easy to hook up with someone on the Internet, or Twitter, but to make it work is difficult, at best.
