Dear Miss Emily
Ive been with my boyfriend for 3 years now. He's 20, and I'm 19. He hasnt had a job, ever, and doesnt plan to get one. All he does all day is sit home, smoke pot, and I work my butt off and go to school, 7 days a week. I'm from Michigan. I live in Colorado now. I really wanna get up and leave and go back to Michigan. I have no one here except him -- no family -- no nothing. What should i do?

You don't paint a pretty picture! His laziness, and you working your butt off is a clarion call for you to make the decision to move back home, and go on with your life without him. You and he would never work out if you were to be married -- not with the attitude he has now. He shows no ambition, you do, and you'd only continue to resent him. As it is, you're in college, furthering your education, and he's a pot-head who is only a legend in his own mind. I'd head back to Michigan, and let your boyfriend figure out how he's going to support himself without you as his meal ticket. You're outgrowing him, and it's time to face it. Were he to get some smarts, in the future, only then could you let him back into your life in a meaningful way. But don't hold your breath. He loves his weed, and I've seen many a person get high, rather than live a meaningful life. But that's his choice, and he has to live with it; however, you don't.
