Switch College?

Hey Emily,
I really don't like the college that I am in right now (I'm a second semester sophomore). I think I want to transfer, but the dead line for most colleges is in two weeks! I think that it is unrealistic for me to complete apps in that time. Should I take the fall off and do apps? If I continue into my junior year, I will be too old to transfer... I have no ideas of other colleges, either. I'm really lost in my life right now. My mom is behind me, but my dad is not. I don't know whether to transfer, or not? Thanks.
----------------------------Miss Emily's advice-------------------------
I agree that doing college apps in a two-week time-frame is hasty when you have no idea where you'd like to transfer. This has to be a long, thought-out process in order to not put yourself in the same situation you're in now. There's no shame in wanting to pursue the right school, and I am glad your mother is on-board with you taking off the fall semester. Despite your father's reluctance to see it your way, I think once you make it clear to him that your present college is not a proper fit, and the decision to find the right one requires in-depth research, he'll come around. Look on the Internet for stories to back you up. Tell him that his support is important to you, and you will make every effort to get it right in order for him to be proud when your name is called at college graduation. A salute might be nice after that speech! Good luck, and let me know what you decide, and the college you choose. I'll remember you!
