Dear Miss Emily:
So this is senior year, and I've been dating this girl for about a year and i really like her. I'd go as far to say I love her. BUT I suck at school, so I couldn't get into college and joined the navy. The question is, do I break up with her before I ship, or do I wait for her to do it when I'm deployed? I'll be at sea for 8 months out of the year.
-------------------------------Miss Emily's advice---------------------------
Why don't you discuss your concerns with her. This is always a delicate situation, and I understand both sides. I think if you use the open-communication theory (talking leads to better understanding), you''ll come to some common ground on this issue. Of course, with you being gone for 8 months out of the year, and the age factor, to think you and she can maintain a relationship through it all is a tad unrealistic. But stranger things have happened. Maturity is the name of the game, and if you approach this with eyes wide open, and honesty, the problem should solve itself.
