Dear Miss Emily,
I and my love are together for 4 and half years. We did vacations together more then 3 times. Now my boyfriend told me that he wishes to go on vacation with his friends, I don't agree as much -- that someone committed travel alone with his friends, but from the other part I think there's nothing bad into it. My fear is that his friends come between us as they are single, so I'm afraid they encourage him to do things that will harm our relationship. I trust him because he's always respectful towards me, so I want him happy. My question is, is it healthy to let him go with his friends? Thanks in advance.
-------------------------------Miss Emily's advice------------------------
I'm all for some independence in a relationship, but I do understand your concern that he will be off with his 'single' friends on vacation. No doubt, there will be women around -- but women are everywhere! I don't think you can forbid him to go -- unless you were willing to tell him, if he did, you'd want to break up. You've been together for four years and, other than this desire to go on a trip with his friends, he appears loyal and has given you no reason to not trust him. But even if something happened, and he did fool around, it's not something you can control. He could do it anywhere, at any time, and it doesn't have to be on a trip with his single friends. Males (and women) do like their bonding experiences and, I think, for the sake of the relationship, you should consider it just that.
