Dear Miss Emily:
I am in love with
a friend of mine, but I never get to see her. She is coming home this
weekend, and I would really like to get together. We talk over facebook, quite
a bit, but I'm not sure we're close enough for me to ask if she wants
to hang. I'm such a shy person, which makes this really hard.. What
should I do?
--------------------------------------------Miss Emily's advice-------------------------------------------
Being a shy person keeps you from entering into the world of possibilities. I understand it's a burden, and not easy to tackle, but if you understand that life is often a struggle for everyone, and we all have to take our hits in relationships, it might be easier for you to be bold enough to ask her if she'd like to get together. Shyness is routed in insecurity/fear of rejection (obviously), but courage is really the easier route. It cuts out the indecisiveness in our lives that keep us frustrated, and struck. Life is too short for that thinking! We face enough obstacles without it. If she's busy, she'll tell you. But do add, "Let me know, when you're back in town, if you'd like to hang." But do continue your correspondence on Facebook. And remember this: From her point of view, a suggestion to get together is perfectly normal behavior. It's you who is having trouble with it.
