Hi Emily:

I have a problem kind of. I like this guy, we have so much in common and I've never been so happy. The only problem is that I and from and live in Barbados and he is From England. We are studying together and he may go back when his degree is finished. He says he wants to stay and i want him to but most likely he may have to go at least for a while. I can't go with him because I'm on a government scholarship that requires I stay and work in my country for a while. I really like him and want things to go further, but should I continue knowing that by next year my heart may be broken?

--------------------------------Miss Emily's advice------------------------

If this relationship is working well, I wouldn't end it now. Of course, there is a chance he will be leaving, but creative, and flexible minds have a way of working things out -- and so might it be true in this case. Long-distance relationships are challenging, but if you think this man is worth your time and effort, I think an unknown future should take a backseat to the time you spend with him, presently. Matters of the heart are rarely simple, and broken hearts occur even when the best circumstances are present, and it would be a shame to miss this opportunity based on a future that has yet to me mapped out.
