Dear Miss Emily:
I have been going out with a woman much younger than myself, and she left me because I've slept with loads of woman, and she can't deal with it. Please give me advice.
---------------------------------Miss Emily's advice---------------------------
The "cat's out of the bag" on this one, and you can't change that. I see little you can do if your past bothers her. Only she can decide if she's overreacted. But, in the future, it's wise to keep that kind of information close to the vest. No one needs to know how many women you've slept with. It used to be that a gentleman never kissed and told! I see no problem in answering, "That's not something I generally discuss, but the answer is -- a few" and refuse to talk about it any further. If a woman can't handle that, her insecurity will drive you away, or at least it should. You see, there's often no point in being completely forthcoming. If you say "lots" that makes you look like a dog in heat, but if you say only a couple, it makes you look as if you weren't worth the effort. Sometimes, you can't win.
